Hi, I’m Áine.
Welcome to Young Irish Budgeter.

I started Young Irish Budgeter because I wanted to make the most of the resources available to me, but I struggled to find financial content that reflected the Irish experience.

In Ireland, money has traditionally been a topic that is not discussed openly. Many of us grew up without being taught the basics of personal finance. Budgeting, mortgages, pensions, and understanding how investing works were rarely part of everyday conversations. Yet these are the very topics that influence some of life’s biggest financial decisions.

I wanted to make informed decisions about my own finances, but I often found the information available either overly complicated or difficult to apply to real life. That frustration eventually led me to study for my Qualified Financial Advisor (QFA) exams, as I wanted to develop a deeper understanding of the fundamentals for myself.

Around the same time, I began to notice the type of content being marketed to women online. Much of it focused on appearance, trends, and the next product to buy. While there is nothing wrong with enjoying those things, I found myself becoming more interested in understanding my finances and working towards my own financial goals.

There was something empowering about shifting my focus away from consumption and towards understanding how money works. Realising that my income could be used more intentionally, and that I could make better-informed decisions with the resources I already had, changed the way I thought about money entirely.

Over the past few years, I have shared financial education content online, and one thing has become very clear: I am not the only person looking for these conversations. There are so many people who want to better understand their finances but simply do not know where to begin.

A large part of what motivates me is making financial education feel more accessible. Financial concepts are often presented as though they are complicated or only relevant to certain people. In reality, understanding your finances is an important life skill, and everyone should have access to clear, straightforward information that helps them make informed decisions.

Social media has been a great way to start these conversations, but it is not always the best place to explain financial topics properly. There is only so much information that can be shared in a short video or a social media post.

That is why I created this space.

The Fundamentals of Finance Club is designed to go beyond quick tips and headlines and focus on the financial literacy concepts that underpin many of life’s biggest decisions. Here, you will find practical, easy-to-understand educational content covering topics such as budgeting, saving, mortgages, housing schemes, pensions, and the fundamentals of investing.

No jargon. No assumptions. No unnecessary complexity.

My goal is simple: to make financial education more accessible and to give people the knowledge and confidence to engage more actively with their finances.
